This tutorial shows how to switch a Tableau extract workflow from TDE to Hyper in Advanced ETL Processor. Use it when an older TDE target needs to become a Hyper target for newer Tableau workflows, without relying on Tableau Desktop on the processing machine.
What You Will Learn
- Identify where the existing Tableau TDE Writer is used.
- Replace or reconfigure the target as a Tableau Hyper Writer.
- Create a new Hyper table or add data to an existing one.
- Check the 64-bit requirement before running Hyper output.
Before You Start
Use a test repository or safe sample data while following the tutorial. Production jobs are a poor place to experiment.
Tableau Hyper Docs For Replacing TDE Output
The Tableau TDE Writer is the older extract target. The Tableau Hyper Writer is the target to use when the workflow needs newer Tableau extract output. Same reporting argument, newer file format. BI teams enjoy this sort of thing more than most people admit.
The Tableau Hyper Writer documentation explains what Hyper is, creating a new Hyper table, adding data to an existing Hyper table, and running SQL before or after loading.
Before changing a production workflow, compare the old Tableau TDE writer properties with the Hyper target settings. Hyper file work requires the 64-bit version, so check the runtime before scheduling the job. That is easier than discovering the wrong bitness at 2 a.m.
