Another thing you can try is temporarily changing the connection details
set the user name to the one which does not exist
When you open the transformation it will fail because of an incorrect user.
Do not forget to change it back.

Thank you both for your help.
The performance issue is with an underlying view.

Would it be possible to make it an option to refresh data when opening a transformation rather than automatically refreshing?
