I am trying to understand what we are trying to achieve here 

Here is some info from the documentation

Teams Channels

A channel is part of a Team (a group workspace). Channels are used for structured, group-based conversations tied to a specific topic or project.

Chats

A chat is a private, ad-hoc conversation between two or more users — similar to texting or DMs.

Are we trying to work with Chats or Channels?

In our company, internal communication now takes place almost exclusively via Teams. At the moment, I send emails when something is imported, sometimes with attachments.
The next step (for me) would be to send everything via Teams in a chat (CFO) or in a channel (Sales). Thomas
