[How] Writing to excel but dates are not recognized

I am on 5.16

1. I am writing a date to excel table in 
2. I have tried Reformatting date column in transformation 
3. I have tried opening Writer->Show Definition -> Format column 

All my attempts to do are met with excel interpreting the date as "TEXT" see example 1
 

What I expected is 2 from screenshot above , done using python 

You have to use  date format function than it will work.

oooh I completely forgot about this since I was fixated on the 2nd part (multiple dates in 1 column) which has been fixed.
