TOPIC: Table names in Chinese

Table names in Chinese 3 years 2 months ago #15371

Hi guys,

Just found and started using the Database Browser. Excellent tool as far as I can tell, but I have one silly problem. I'm using it against Clarion Topspeed files and in the table list the filenames show up using Chinese characters! See screenshot at: www.screencast.com/t/CjwyrhkmmF They show up correctly in the SQL Builder though - see same screenshot. Filename look normal in all programs I have - example from Explorer: screencast.com/t/iLsE40A1bVAs This is a 64bit Windows 8.1 virtual machine.

Any ideas?

Hi Mike,

Thanks for responding! I have attached a ZIP file with 7 .tps files, c4otSDX.dll which is the ODBC driver (32bit only) and a .reg file with the information for the TopSpeed ODBC driver. It needs to be edited or the registry edited to point to the ODBC driver DLL location and a "Topspeed ODBC Driver" value needs to be added to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI\ODBC Drivers. All of those tables show up in that weird character set for me. Another Clarion developer tried this last night and he got the same results.

Best regards,

Hi Mike,

I created a simple install program to do this - you can download it from here:

You can check a virusscan of it at

Run it, point it to the dll I sent you and click the "Add Driver" button. You should then be able to create a (32bit) ODBC connection to the .tps files.

I have to run Database Browser as Administrator as it complains about access to the files, even if I have changed the folder security to allow everything. Not sure what that's about, but it works fine in admin mode:)

OK this time I was able to install the driver and reproduce the problem.
One of our developers will have a look at it for you but it might take a while.
(They are very dedicated believe me) B)
