TOPIC: VI 9.2.4.0 External App Call .BAT leaving orphan Cmd Line Utility Process

VI 9.2.4.0 External App Call .BAT leaving orphan Cmd Line Utility Process 7 months 3 weeks ago #18670

Not long after last upgrade to 9.2.4 on Win2012 Svr, having ETL command line utility sessions finish but not release resources.
Sessions visible in Task Manager, VI ETL Command lin utility(64bit) 0k CPU, 57m RAM.
Edit a jobs "External App Call" to the .SQL instead of .BAT seems to fix issue and not leave orphaned ETL command line utility sessions.
Overnight jobs can leave 12+ orphaned ETL command line utility sessions not closed.

It is probably trying to send an email and getting stuck

www.etl-tools.com/wiki/aetle/options

The Notifications tab defines Email connection settings for Agent failures and Package notifications.

If enabled

The agent will send notifications on repository connection failures
Notifications about execution failures will be sent as well (Packages, Transformations, Imports and SQL scripts)

Double checked email settings, emails are going out as should be on jobs that have email task.
Orphaned "VI ETL Command Line Utility (64 Bit) still occurring.

So far all today's orphan processes are from 5 minute or 15 minute interval jobs that do not have email task.
Have added "taskkill /FI "CPUTIME eq 00:00:00" /IM vpr.exe /F" to a 15 minute Automate task scheduler to clean up 0 CPU time orphans until we can determine what else is happening.

Not sure I understand the issue...

1 I assume you are using windows scheduler is that correct?

2 Edit a jobs "External App Call" to the .SQL instead of .BAT seems to fix issue and not leave orphaned ETL command line utility sessions.

What does it mean?

3 You can try running the package from the command line.
That way you will be able to see where it gets stuck

It is possible to write a bat file which never finish in this case our software will wait forever

i'll add detail. For years we have run import steps, then finish import with an "External Application Call" step that executes a .BAT file.
In the .BAT file there are between 1-8 PLSQL statements executing .SQL files on server.
Has worked perfect for years without issue. However just after recent upgrade to 9.2.4, when looking in win Task Manager, we find 10-20 orphan processes each for vpr.exe, sqlplus.exe, conhost.exe with 0 CPU Time.

This issue has only started to occur after upgrade.

Since you have orphan sqlplus.exe processes I can assume that SQL plus is not exiting.

It is possible if an error happened during sql script execution.
stackoverflow.com/questions/2281637/sqlp...rminating-sql-script
Or when sql plus is unable to connect.
asktom.oracle.com/pls/asktom/f?p=100:11:...:9537348100346994790

You can try to redirect sqlplus output into the file and see what is happening
