What are the hardware requirements of ETL Enterprise. I can't seem to find them, perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place.

It is 32 bit application which can use up to 3.8 gigs of memory on 64 bit OS
So my recommendation is 64 bit windows 8 gig of memory + ssd disk
Adding more memory will not make it work any faster but SSD will

Is it still only a 32 bit app? I have to say that's a bit of a concern for me... it implies to me that you're not keeping up.

It all depends on how people write the software.
If it is bloated = you need a lot of memory.
(Our ETL Agent is 7.65 meg in size and it works with 28 data sources types,300+ transformation functions, ftp, zip, http, HL7 and much more)
Most of the time ETL process is a stream EG you process one record at the time.
The only time when you may need more of memory is for large lookups and sorting operations
Anyway you can try our software yourself now.
