How to Convert Excel Data to XML

XML remains one of the most common formats for structured data transfer between systems. Whether you're feeding data into APIs, exchanging information with partners, or loading it into enterprise applications, converting Excel to XML is often a critical step in automation and integration pipelines.

1. Open Advanced ETL Processor Enterprise
2. Create a Directory connection to your Excel file location.
3. Create a new Transformation:
   • Right-click a Transformation group and select New
4. Remove the Validator object to simplify the workspace.
5. Add a Data Reader:
   • Select your Excel file (.xls or .xlsx)
   • Choose the worksheet, range, or table to read
   • Use wildcards like *.xlsx for batch conversion

   Multiple files and dynamic Excel structures are supported out of the box.

6. Add an XML Writer:
   • Select your output directory and filename (e.g., data.XML)
   • Customize tag names, XML structure, and root element as needed
7. Map and Transform Data:
   • Open the Transformer object
   • Use drag-and-drop or AutoMap to link Excel fields to XML elements
   • Apply formatting or transformation logic if needed
8. Execute the Conversion:
   • Click Execute to generate your XML file
   • Validate the output by viewing the XML structure in your preferred editor
9. Automate the Workflow:
   • Use built-in scheduler to convert Excel to XML on a schedule
   • Trigger jobs via file monitoring or external events
