Convert Excel File to QVD Automatically

QVD (QlikView Data) is Qlik’s native file format for storing table data used by QlikView and Qlik Sense. By converting Excel to QVD outside of Qlik, you can offload data preparation and simplify your ETL process.

1. Launch Advanced ETL Processor Enterprise
2. Create a Directory connection to the folder containing your Excel files.
3. Create a new Transformation:
   • Right-click a Transformation group and select New
4. Delete the default Validator object to clean up the workspace.
5. Configure the Data Reader:
   • Select the Excel source (.xls or .xlsx)
   • Pick a specific worksheet, named range, or table
   • Use masks like *.xlsx to process multiple files in one step

   Advanced ETL Processor supports dynamic Excel inputs without macros or pre-formatting.

6. Add a QVD Writer:
   • Select the output path and QVD file name (e.g., sales_data.qvd)
   • Define table structure if needed, or use AutoMap
7. Configure Field Mapping:
   • Open the Transformer
   • Use drag-and-drop to map fields
   • Apply formatting, cleansing, or calculated fields if required
8. Run the Conversion:
   • Click Execute to create the QVD
   • Check the output directory and logs for verification
9. Schedule for Automation:
   • Set the job to run daily, hourly, or when new Excel files arrive
