Decide where the repository database will live before installing. It is easier to choose the right repository at the start than to explain later why half the team built workflows in a test database.

The repository database stores connections, transformations, packages, SQL scripts, reports, and execution logs. For a new setup, review creating a new repository. For an existing environment, continue with connecting to an existing repository after installation.
